The Saw Mill

I had heard of an old saw mill that was built up on a stream sometime back in the 30’s or 40’s, not far from my house. I decided to take the camera and the dog and check it out.
I followed a trail for about 1.5km where it ends at a hot spring. From the hot springs I was told to just follow the stream and I can’t miss it. Well after about another 1.5km I almost missed it. There was not much left of it. I guess it should not surprise me. Time and the jungle are very cruel and have no mercy on man made machines.
The day was beautiful and the scenery was lovely. No one around, just me, the dog and a lot of birds and a babbling stream.
I find it very difficult to photograph the jungle. It is very dense and a lot of green, not to mention the spots of bright sunlight amongst the deep shadows. I took a few shots of the creek just to add a little of the journey to the images of what was left of the mill.
From what I could tell the main structure was a water driven paddle wheel with a fly wheel on the other side. The fly wheel would have had a belt on it that turned another wheel with the saw blade attached. This is a guess of course as nobody around really knows for sure and there was not much else there but a few rusted pieces of metal.

I love all the pictures. You captured the green and light well, and the decay of the mill was well-done as well. But my favorite has to be the dog!

I am going to check the skywatch link you have on your page. Looks like a cool thing to do! I am taking pictures all the time anyway, might as well have a purpose!! Thanks about the backyard. We love it. We have about an acre and a quarter. Look forwards to seeing your backyard too! I have thought about doing the Project 365 starting January 1st, 2009. Where you post a picture you take every day for a year. Maybe you could do that too and we can get a group together. I think it would be a challenge and very interesting.
